About The MITS Award

Since its creation in 1992, the Music Industry Trusts Award has become one of the industry’s most cherished fundraising events.

Each year, our committee of esteemed experts draw on their diverse experience to choose an outstanding individual to honour with the award, in recognition of their contribution to the UK’s musical and cultural landscape.

The award-presentation ceremony is held at The Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane every November. This special, inspirational evening brings together hundreds of guests from across the industry to celebrate the recipient’s achievements among their peers, all while raising vital funds for music charities Nordoff & Robbins and The BRIT Trust.

So far, we’ve raised over £7m for their valuable work.

PPL is the UK music industry’s collective management organisation (CMO) for performers and recording rightsholders, founded in 1934. We license recorded music in the UK when it is played in public (bars, nightclubs, shops, offices, etc.) or broadcast (BBC, commercial radio, commercial TV, etc.) and we work to ensure that revenue flows back to both our own members and those of our international CMO partners. Our members include both independent and major record companies, together with performers ranging from emerging grassroots artists through to established session musicians and globally renowned artists.

In 2023, PPL revenue was £283.5 million, the highest in the organisation’s 90-year history, and we paid more than 165,000 performers and recording rightsholders.

PPL’s public performance licensing is carried out on our behalf by PPL PRS Ltd, the first of its kind joint venture between PPL and PRS for Music, established in 2018.

Through a network of agreements with CMOs around the world, we also collect performance rights internationally when music is played overseas in public and used on TV, radio and some online streaming services, as well as for private copying. International royalties are an increasingly important revenue stream for performers and recording rightsholders.
